March 2005
Anne Robson came from a senior-level position at one of the world's leading professional services organizations. Kelleher Associates helped her develop a senior-level network, an exceptional resume, and a new-found understanding of her strengths and business aspirations. After a successful campaign, she is now Director of Strategy and Business Development at McKesson, which ranks number 16 on the Fortune 500.
How did you become aware of Kelleher Associates, Inc. and why did you choose them to assist you in your job search?
I first met some of the Kelleher principals when I attended an ExecuNet meeting. I met Mitch Wienick and I was particularly impressed with his grasp of the search process and his unique perspective on it. Mitch has a real feel for what happens to executives in transition.
I should add that I had just begun my search, leaving an executive-level position at
Ernst & Young. I began with another firm, but after attending a few sessions I felt that particular firm was not well positioned to provide senior-level executive counseling.
What did you perceive to be the real “value add” of your experience with Kelleher?
I felt the search transition process began in earnest from the first day I started working with Kelleher. Personal interactions with Kelleher’s excellent staff and discussions with successful senior executive clients who had made the transition to new positions supported my choice.
Kelleher Associates has a great deal of success helping clients effectively transition to new opportunities and the coaches are well connected with business leaders throughout the Greater Delaware Valley. They guided me through a very strategic search, helping me analyze just what I was looking for in an ideal position. They have a methodical process that really helps you focus on and pursue your objectives.
You had a number of employment opportunities to consider. What was it about your current position that stood out and how did Kelleher help you make this decision?
Through what I would describe as strategic level coaching and counseling, Mitch helped me sort out the pros and cons of each position. We looked at the type of work I wanted to do, as well as geographic considerations. Mitch and I looked at my attributes and analyzed the value profiles of the different opportunities. I needed to carefully consider what I was offered against what I truly wanted to do.
What lessons and tools did you take away from your experience with Kelleher?
The very one that got me to Kelleher in the very first place—the importance of networking! Networking for a senior-level position is different than I would have imagined. I had never really networked before and I did not have a strong local system of contacts on whom to rely.
That’s exactly what Kelleher helped drive home. I plan to systematically network, even when employed, and I feel that I know how to do this effectively, thanks to Mitch.
Without the support of Kelleher, I would not have my current strong resume and I would not have attracted McKesson’s interest. My level of readiness and my confidence were high and I knew I could obtain my ideal position.
Would you recommend Kelleher?
Of course I would recommend them. I feel like I made real friendships there. I also liked meeting the other professionals going through their searches and being exposed to organizations Kelleher recommended. I would recommend anyone who is entertaining the thought of changing careers or companies speak with someone at Kelleher as a priority.
